Pros & cons
Ice Barrel 300
- ✓Full polyurethane insulation keeps water cold for days in cool weather — minimal ice runs
- ✓Limited lifetime warranty on the barrel shell
- ✓Small vertical footprint fits balconies and patio corners
- ✓Chiller-compatible later without replacing the tub
- ✓Rotomolded UV-stable shell shrugs off year-round outdoor life
- ✓Meaningfully cheaper than powered anything at $1,149.99
- ✗Hard 6'0" height limit — and the mid-size 400 was discontinued, forcing tall users to the pricier 500
- ✗Water changes every 3-4 weeks without treatment products
- ✗Narrow opening is tight for muscular or broad-shouldered builds
- ✗Upright entry/exit over the side is awkward until it becomes routine
- ✗Several Ice Barrel SKUs have shown extended sold-out periods in 2026
Ice Barrel 500
- ✓Thick foam insulation holds cold for days — the least ice-dependent manual tub sold
- ✓6'9" max height accommodates genuinely big athletes
- ✓Molded steps and interior seat make upright soaking comfortable
- ✓Limited lifetime barrel warranty
- ✓Chiller-compatible for a later powered upgrade
- ✓104-lb empty weight is manageable for two people to position
- ✗Seating orientation forces you to face away from the steps — universally described as weird at first
- ✗Opening remains snug for broad, muscular builds despite the bigger tub
- ✗Manual water changes of 94 gallons are a chore without a nearby drain
- ✗At $1,749.99 it's several stock tanks' worth of money for an unpowered vessel
- ✗2026 stock availability has been inconsistent
